The Committee of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences

The Geophysics Committee was established in 1952. It unifies experienced scientists working in the  field of the geophysical research and problems. The Committee in particular deals with issues in the field of physics of the Earth and planets’ interior, physics of the atmosphere, hydrology and applied geophysics.

The group of scientists in the Geophysics Committee represents various scientific disciplines of exact and natural sciences. The dominant discipline is the Earth and environmental sciences. The committee composes scientists from several Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, as well as from the University of Warsaw, Mine and Metallurgy University of Science and Technology (AGH),  University of Silesia, Jagiellonian University, Cracow University of Technology and others.

The activities of the Committee are managed by the Presidium, and the substantive work is concentrated in four thematic working groups.

The main tasks of the Geophysics Committee are:

  • integration and coordination of the activities of the scientific community in Geophysicists in Poland
  • activities aimed at strengthening the cooperation of scientific institutions with industrial partners in Poland
  • supervision of the international journal Acta Geophysica
  • popularizing the results of geophysical research important for the country and in global scale
  • representation of Polish science in international organizations

 

The statute of The Committee of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences
